Some chaos is intended, but so much more is just a misunderstanding. We're discussing how some people are just more prone to these incidents than others.
Delving Deeper with Oleander Hawthorne. A series where we have metagame discussions about our characters, events in-game, the world, or just to demand of someone "What were you thinking?!"

Hello and welcome to Delving Deeper with Oleander Hawthorne and Delphine Alendra. Today we're a little on the uh demonic side. Not that far for Delphi, not that far. Well, she's more devil-ish. Technically devilish. Yeah, you're really kind of adjacent to yourself right now, adjacent. Uh just a little event that we're going to. So what happened here? Woo! What did happen there? Your hair's been all messed up. Was that when I jumped on the bed? Yes. Let's start that over again. I liked it. Very appropriate. Considering what we're gonna talk about. Fine. Okay, yeah, it's just a good example of my natural talents. Okay, anyways, what we want to talk about today is that's not what I thought that chat bubble meant. Yup. So she is notorious in video games for choosing a chat option on the um conversation wheel, thinking it means one thing and it means something. Totally sideways. And then she asked me questions like: Who is this character? How have you never met this character? Did you not go into that bar? Nope. Or accidentally killing love interests and best friends. I have killed every love interest and best friend in every video game that I've ever played. Fact. She played Mass Effect all the way through just so that she could romance and kill somebody that I killed while trying to romance. By accident. But I feel like I had greater satisfaction in killing Caden because fuck that guy. I killed him so much. I was so irritated. I was just trying to be nice. I it was it was like a delayed pleasure reaction. I just loved it. I can't figure out why he tried to kill me. Because he's an idiot and I hate him. Yeah, I think Garrett's for life. Yeah. So, anyways, yeah. Not only do I roll really poorly on a regular basis, it is a talent. Ones and threes now. Threes is the new thing. Three's the new one. Three's the new one. Three's the new one. Yeah. But um, yeah, I do always have a chance. Uh, not a chance. I always end up choosing something that means something that I don't think it means. And now in our campaign, they are getting to experience in real time my levels of misunderstanding. Horrifying and fascinating at the same time because I get to see exactly how her games go sideways. But now I have to deal with it, and that's why it's horrifying for me, because I am a control freak. You really, really are. Yes. I have a problem. She's a control freak and a completionist. Now, yes, I want to talk to all the people and go to all the places and look at all the things. Yeah. I've always considered myself a completionist. So I don't know. You have not, you're not. You mean to be, but you're really not. Okay, Baldur's Gate spoilers for Baldur's Gate 3. If you have not played, go aye aye. Or just accept that I'm gonna tell you something that you probably couldn't do if you tried. So I played the entire game through thinking that the only companions were Asterian, Gail, and Shadowheart. That's all I had the whole way through. Right until the end. Ignoring the rest of the people who are in the frickin' artwork. I thought that they were NPCs that I was supposed to come. Or to meet. To meet. Yes, I wasn't supposed to come. They but really, I don't understand. So what are what are some of your some examples of your favorite sheet stuff, shenanigans? In our game. In our game that I have done that has uh gone sideways. I mean, I don't want to be at a dead horse, but when you rip people's throats out, they don't generally survive that. Okay, once again, I'm gonna state at no point did I think I could kill him. And I didn't think he was injured. Yeah. And I didn't think that. Yeah. Just I just honestly it never occurred to me that he could die. Another scenario. Um, this is pre-recording. How she became a snaccident. Oh, yeah. She was she, we're we're in a in a crypt underneath a vampire lord's manor, and he's we're we're doing really poorly. We're gonna die. And I hold a shadow blade over the woman he loves. It's very, it's very strawed. I hold a uh shadow blade over the woman he loves who's lying in state, turning into a vampire, and I'm just yelling to him, Barthalon, you know, basically stop the attack. Like my best case scenarios, we could get, we were gonna get imprisoned and we could escape the dungeon. So he stopped the attack and he showed up in person. Yep. And we were having a face-off, and she things slightly calmed down, and then somebody else started fighting again. And so then, in order to try and s once again have a ceasefire, I thought, what is something that would make him pause? A comforting and familiar face saying, Let us just take a break, hey. Yeah, let's let's try to calm him down. So I put on the face of his dead wife. So what do you probably not want to do with an obsessive vampire lord who keeps kidnapping women and turning them into his vampire brides? And then you present yourself looking like his wife who died in childbirth. I was just trying to calm the situation. You didn't think he'd kidnap you and turn you into a vampire? I never thought that that was an option. Sideways. Sideways. However, you don't always uh you don't always stay that way. No, you don't always stay that way. What are some other fun ones we get? You know what? I'm I'm suddenly blanking um. Well, some of them are not necessarily entirely your fault. You do forget to check things sometimes, like the bomb barrels of explosives. Yep. Yeah, you you waited until you accidentally blew some people up at a part of the wall, and then you check them. Yeah, but to be fair, that was a poor role. That was a bad role. To be fair though, yeah, that was a poor role. Yeah. So it's not always entirely her choices. Sometimes it's her rolling. It's half misunderstanding, half poor roles. Half the number three coming to uh curse us. Yes. Now, I mean, I do always like my video game issues. Um honestly, Mass Effect, I think, has been one of my biggest ones for Dragon Age. Screw Well, okay, Dragon Age, I screwed up. I did not think that when not accidentally turning into something in Baldur's Gate because you slept with someone. I don't actually even remember sleeping with him. Also, okay, Iron Bull, my boyfriend, we were gonna get married. He told me we were gonna get married. He flat out said, as soon as this is all done, we're gonna settle down, we're gonna get married. I turn around two seconds later and the Trespasser DLC. Spoilers. Spoilers! It's an old game, you should know it by now. Yeah. He tried to kill me. He turned on me, and then I had to kill him. Okay, so he does that regardless, pretty much, is he he gets tempted to turn back to the queue. And the only way he doesn't get convinced to come back to you is if you let the chargers die. I have no recollection of this event. Which means she let the chargers die. Pretty sure I didn't make that decision. I'm sure she didn't talk to him enough to get that conversation to make that decision. If I can talk to you enough for you to propose to me, then I've talked to you enough. Apparently not. Yeah. But he tried to kill me, so I killed him. And then, um, I mean, in our game, I killed Einar because he killed me. He's it's his fault because I got turned into a vampire, so I touched his dice. It's not your fault, actually. Not my fault, but I did touch his dice with malicious intent, and then he immediately died right after that. I got better. He got better. He got better. Uh, and then um in Dragon Age Inquisition, I decided not to support the Empress, and I said that I was gonna support her cousin, I believe. And I thought that that just meant that, hey, I'm gonna support him. I want this person. He's gonna be in he's gonna be the ruler, and we're gonna, you know, just take her off the throne. I did not mean immediately kill her. Yeah, well, you know, politics in Orlay. Yeah, but I didn't know she also never met Sarah. And I don't think you I romanced her. No, I'm I romanced Sarah later on. I think it's Viviane you didn't get. No, I oh, there was somebody else I didn't get. I didn't play with Vivian, I didn't like her very much. She also didn't get Israel. Isabella in number two. I played the entire second game just so I could have Isabella as The Pants was pirate. It's made for her. Really? I I got to the end game and I'm like, when am I gonna get Isabella? Like, did you go into the bar to hang man and talk to the chick at the bar? I went in there. Someone's hitting on her. I turn and then she punches the guy and no recollection of this event. Yeah, yeah. So, anyways, I have a tendency to screw things up by uh confusion. Misinterpretation. Misinterpretation. So I want you guys to tell me what you have misinterpreted to mean that has totally derailed your video game or campaign, and uh just tell me I'm not alone. Tell me I'm not alone in like my frustration of trying desperately to hurt the same cats. Tell her she's alone, and tell me I'm right. I d it's like holding hurting little chaos gremlins. You are the chaos gremlin, and I am perfect. I am an angel. Thank you very much for watching Delving Deeper with Oleander Hawthorne and Delina Landra. Or today, um Azirafail and Crowley-ish. Uh basically inspired. Yes, inspired by Azerophale and Crowley. If uh Azirafail was trying to be a demon. Very bad demon. Very bad at it at all. Failing all the checks. I hope you guys take care of yourselves. Don't taking indulge, drink, do all the terrible things. Yeah. Punch someone if you I want you guys to be so greedy. Don't go to bed before midnight. Eat a really good meal. Eat all eat just all everything terrible for you. Tell people how pretty they are. No, they're terrible. Some charitable acts. Do you know what you need to do? You need to do a backhanded compliment. You're like, little bit of murder is okay. Yes, actually, good job.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I got one right. Good job. High five. Bye.
